Tell Toyota to Walk the Talk

The Toyota Prius has become an icon of the future of clean and efficient cars. But while Toyota takes one step forward toward that clean future, it quietly takes three steps back into business as usual. Toyota recently began offering two gas guzzling hybrid vehicles that, according to reporters from The New York Times, don’t get better fuel mileage than their non-hybrid versions.

Toyota also joined a group of automakers suing to overturn California’s new regulations to reduce smog and global warming pollution from vehicles (these regulations stem from a precedent-setting law conceived by Bluewater). In addition, the company is participating in efforts to block substantial increases in the federal CAFE fuel mileage standards, and Toyota vehicles have a worse average fuel mileage today than they did in 1990.

Bluewater Network published an ad in Mother Jones online and will be running an ad in The New York Times criticizing Toyota’s anti-environmental policies. Toyota's lobbying and litigation run opposite to the company's carefully cultivated green image. Send a message to Toyota today and tell them to end their opposition to U.S. laws that would help protect the planet and reduce oil dependence!
